Berwins Solicitors

Leading Yorkshire legal firm Berwins Solicitors sum up their client experience and service by referring to themselves as ‘No ordinary lawyers’. The team approached Extreme seeking a digital presence which not only reflected this but conveyed their dynamism and specialism for Digital Law - a relatively new and niche area, as well as well-established, quality provision of family, property, life and business law.

With a new site, Berwins sought to break down preconceptions of solicitors, appearing more approachable, effective and champion their increased offering to match client needs.

Contemporary, client-friendly site

A major part of the brief for the new site was to reflect Berwins’ fresh approach, wide range of services and importantly, make the site work well on mobile and tablets. The new look hub was also to support client acquisition and further boost retention with some ease-of-access facilities such as document downloads and online payments.

Design and build

Before we started, we worked alongside Berwins to plan a url structure, and wire-framing process to create a smooth user experience. This meant generating more easy-to-read content and consciously placing more copy heavy pages lower down the journey so the site would remain clean and simple to take in/navigate.

We invested time in getting into why Berwins were ‘No ordinary lawyers’, ensuring the style and tone of content reflected these points.

Discovery Phase

During our discovery phase, it was clear the ‘Our People’ page was an excellent opportunity to set Berwins apart from the competition. As the most visited page on the previous site, we knew we needed to focus on making this a key page. Extreme sourced and gave art direction to a photography company, to shoot the office environment, and individual team members, showing the approachable, yet professional nature of the company.

This content was then used by our designers and developers to create an innovative and stylish ‘Our People’ page, which users can filter by service. Potential clients can get to know their solicitors from their individual profile pages, with personal information on hobbies and interests, as well as professional content such as testimonials from previous clients and blog posts written by that individual solicitor and full contact details.

Berwins website icons

From a design perspective we wanted to ensure clients old and new could swiftly and simply find their desired team or area of expertise on the site, so we created colour-coded, bespoke icons for each area of legal expertise.

Key Functionality

Other key functions include onsite payments for settling fees and a download hub where all relevant guides and information can be found and printed. Clients can also now book an appointment through the site.

As part of the transition, we implemented an SEO strategy to ensure a smooth changeover to the new with as little disruption to organic traffic and rankings as possible. Benchmarking was carried out to assess the performance of the old site compared with the new and post launch, performance was closely monitored.

Content platforms were designed and built in the form of blog, articles, press, Events & social sections, in order for content to play a big role with their ongoing marketing.

What the client said:

“We wanted to be modern, smart and accessible reflecting our brand and our distinctiveness and we think we have achieved what we set out to do. We are especially pleased that we can now offer our clients a much improved mobile experience, which supports our paperless way of working. Our new website sits central to our larger digital marketing strategy and we are excited about the opportunities it is going to create for us, especially for an improved and integrated social media strategy.

We are really pleased with how Extreme Creations grasped our needs and wants and implemented them, bringing a lot of creativity and know-how to the project.

They were also very nice people to work with - good humoured, responsive and personable. They managed and guided us gently but firmly throughout the process.” Carolynn Peace, Director and Head of Property Law at Berwins
